Demonstration calling for direct presidential elections

With the Anti-DuPont Movement organized by Lukang residents in 1986 giving rise to the establishment of the Environmental Protection Administration, Changhua’s environmental movement continued to flourish until the end of the 1990s. The “March 3 Anti-FCFC Action,” held by Changhua City saw residents protest against long-term pollution around farmlands caused by the exhaust and effluent from Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corporation’s plants. Other important events included a protest against the establishment of a waste incinerator in Shuiwei of Hsichou Township; the “Save the Dadu River Movement '' in Shenkang Township; and a protest by the fishermen of Wangkung village against local marine pollution.
