The Unsung Heroes of the Changhua Plain: A Brief Introduction -
Hung Yao-huan (1946-1990)
Living in Changhua’s coast, an area plagued by rampant organized criminal activity and a lack of understanding toward democracy, Hung stood up fearlessly to bullying powers. As the first person the celebrate the victory of independent candidates with firecrackers, he turned his own scrivener office into a stronghold of democracy by displaying flyers and brochures. His legacy was inherited by his wife Hung Tsui-lien who, following in her husband’s footsteps, remains devoted to Taiwan’s democracy.
