The Unsung Heroes of the Changhua Plain: A Brief Introduction -

Lai Tsang-te (1953-2020)

Lai’s daily life as a protester began as soon as his breakfast shop closed up for the day. Taking the attitude of “willing to do, happy to bear,” he was never absent from important protest rallies, even after being surrounded by nearly one thousand police officers in front of Taipei’s Lungshan Temple at the May 19 Green Action in 1986. From the sit-in for the Penglai Island Incident to the “Night of DPP as a New Party,” as well as a speaking tour in support of Hsu Tsao-te and Tsai Yu-chuan and demonstration of Let the Blacklisted Home Movement, Lai was often spotted in the protest crowd.
